July Top Ten Group Date Ideas

20 Jul

It is time for sun, fun, and the third installment of Top Ten Group Date Ideas. Drum roll please….

At number 10…

  • Host a murder mystery dinner party.  The books cost $30 or so last time I bought one, but they are really fun.  You get to dress up, eat, and pin your friend for murder.   Most libraries should have a copy you can borrow or check out.

At number 9…

  • Napoleon Dynamite party: Dress up like a character (go moon boots!), draw portraits of each other, “build her a cake” have groups decorate an ugly cake, learn “the dance”, video yourself throwing a football, tow each other down the road on roller skates, eat tater tots, quesadillas, and raw eggs (I think I’m going to have to have a Napoleon party now!). You’re having a Napoleon party… lucky!

At number 8…

  • Rock climbing.  Indoors or outdoors it is always fun.  If you have what it takes check out Purdue’s Outing club online at http://www.purdueoutingclub.org/.

At number 7…

  • Survivor game night.  Play the board game or the real game.  Either way the tribe has spoken or you are the weakest link… good bye. 😉

At number 6…

  • Angry Birds Party: make a catapult or slingshot and set up cans or Jenga blocks.  There are multiple ideas online on how others have had Angry Birds party, but be creative.  How would you create an Angry Birds party?

At number 5…

  • Indiana Jones party.  Watch Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Last Crusade, Temple of Doom, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, or even the new and “improved” The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.  Or you could dress up like Dr. Jones, Marion Ravenwood, or his trusty assistant Short Round.  Reenact your favorite adventure scene, make exotic foods from his travels, or have a movie trivia game night either way a good time will be had by all.

At number 4…

  • Glow-in-the-dark bowling.  Just put glow-sticks in pop bottles and grab the nearest round object! Brilliant!

At number 3…

  • Frisbee dodge ball.  “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”

At number 2…

  • Okay, this was our favorite game to play in high school, but I can’t remember what we called it now! Everyone starts at one site, and we announce a place to end up.  Half of the group is named “Police” and the other half are “bad guys”. The police can drive around in cars if they want, or they can run, but basically the bad guys get to cut through friend’s yards and commando crawl around to try to get to the end place. We would sometimes dress all in black, and even do face paint. Super fun. Just be careful to not scare anyone by letting your friends and neighbors know you are playing the game through the neighborhood.

And the number 1 group date activity for June 2012…

  • Zombie Olympics… anyone? “The first rule of Zombieland: Cardio.”

These are hilarious! I think the name of #2 is Cops & Robbers? Some friends played last summer from the dorms all the way to Wabash Landing. I heard it went well. Wish I weren’t home for the summer when they played.

      Thank you for the comment.
Cops & Robbers is not just a game you can play over the summer. It would be easy to get a campus wide game started like zombies vs. humans and you can play it during the academic year when the student population is the greatest. If you have any interesting cheap date ideas I would love to hear them.
